Over the past few years, my company has been honored with numerous awards that have designated us as being one of the top web designers in Philadelphia and the East Coast. Obviously, that’s great for recognition and something that makes me very proud on a personal level. However, it is also gotten me thinking: what can you really say about a top web design company? How do you separate the best from the rest?

Naturally, my opinions are going to be subjective. But, with many years of experience in the online marketing industry, I have a few thoughts. Here are five things I think qualify a creative team as being one of the top web designers…

#1 They Don’t Necessarily Take Every Client

A top web design firm isn’t necessarily eager to work with every potential client who comes our way. It’s not that we think we’re too good for anyone, but that we know the right fit is more important than a signed contract. You shouldn’t hand your web development project over to someone who seems all-too-eager to get your signature on the dotted line.

#2 They Spend Longer in the Research and Discovery Process

Designing a wonderful website can be easy… but only if you understand the client’s business, along with their strengths, challenges, and unique selling points. In other words, interviewing the principles within a company and understanding what they are all about is often the most important step in the web design process. That’s why a top creative team is going to spend a little extra time getting to know you.

#3 They Emphasize Communication and Customer Care

Although top web designers are technically paid to produce pages, we also think it’s important to make sure our clients are happy. That means returning phone calls, being pleasant professionals, and keeping the business owners we work with in the loop on activities and milestones. You should always know what’s happening with your website, and what you’re getting for your money.

#4 They Prefer an Interactive Approach to Web Design

In the same way, I think a top web designer should never work for too long without some kind of direction. That is, they should be checking in from time to time to get feedback on new layouts, ideas, and design elements. That kind of interactive approach keeps everyone on the same page and ensures no obvious client needs are missed.

#5 They Deliver a Long-Term Online Marketing Plan

I saved the most important point for last. A top web designer doesn’t just give your website to you – they produce an online marketing plan you can follow if you want to grow your business in the months and years to come. A great website is only the beginning. To really make a bottom line impact in your company, you have to have a way to bring visitors in and convert them into buyers. That’s something a top web designer can help you with.

Every business owner wants to work with a top web designer, and I don’t think they should settle for anything less. After all, a strong web presence is critical to marketing, branding, and online reputation management. Why pay for something that isn’t likely to generate a positive return in the future?

I hope you’ll use the five points I’ve outlined in this article to find the right vendor to help your business grow. Or, if you want great service from a committed web design and internet marketing partner, contact Biondo Creative today to see what we can do for you!
