If you visit a full-service web design and Internet marketing agency (like mine), you’re going to find a team of creative professionals who can do a lot of things for you. We can build a website that suits your company, helps you to attract buyers through Google and the other search engines, and can even help you to establish a social following or email subscriber list.

The one thing we can’t do, however, is tell you the details of your business. That’s information you have to bring with you. In fact, you don’t just have to know what your company is all about, you have to be sure you convey it clearly to your designer so they can give you the visuals and campaign plans you need.

To give you a sense of why this is so important, and what kind of knowledge you have to pass along, here are five things a web designer needs to know before putting your new site together…

#1 What Your Business is All About

It’s not enough for web designer to know the basics of your company or industry. To really bring your marketing message to life, they have to know who you are, what you stand for, and what the identity or personality of your business is like. It helps if you can add some insights into your history and philosophy, too.

#2 Which Customers Love You, and Why

You are probably trying hard to attract a certain type of customer to your website. Who are they? If you can, go beyond simple demographics and talk about personal motivators and hot buttons that matter to them. And, explain why these customers are ideal for you, and why they choose you instead of the competition.

#3 Who Your Competitors Are

Speaking of the competition, we have to get to know them, as well. Where are the businesses you worry about? What do they do better than you, and in what areas can they not keep up? When thinking about your relative strengths and weaknesses, consider pricing, location, and even things like the tone of your marketing campaigns.

#4 How You Turn a Profit

As obvious as it might seem to you, take the time to explain to your web designer where it is your profits come from. Do you sell direct to customers, in a business-to-business atmosphere, or in some other way? Let them get an idea of your revenue model so they can help you to enhance it over the web, or even help you to find new sources of sales and income.

#5 Where Your Company is Going

You don’t just want a website that’s perfect for your business now – you should try to have your design team create a web presence that will grow with your company for years to come. You don’t have to give away trade secrets, but be sure your designers know where you see things going, and how they can help you reach the future you’re planning for.

If you have been working with web designers who haven’t taken the time to get to know your business properly, now is the perfect occasion to start getting better results. Contact the Biondo Creative team today to see what we can do for you!
